holos unfolds as a durational mythopoetic eco-feminist ritual, a living sculpture, growing from the ruins of Nunhead Cemetery's Anglican Chapel. An incantation to charm the future, an invitation to embrace enchantment. Created through field recordings and eco-somatic practice, and in collaboration with children from Ivydale Primary School. Artists Alexa Reid and Natasha Lohan explore what it means to become porous in response to the Cemetery’s specific ecology and histories, embodying cycles of decay and regeneration and asking the question ‘how to lichen?’
With special thanks to the voices of Tuning In (community outdoor singing group led by Natasha Lohan). Tuning In meet in Nunhead Cemetery, marking the 'wheel of the year') and Trinity Laban, Voices in Motion group (Voices in Motion is a collective of older adults who meet weekly to explore voice and movement, led by Natasha Lohan and dancer Maria Ghoumrassi.
Soundscapes from holos, created by Natasha Lohan in collaboration with Alexa Reid. Composed through deep listening and field recordings.
With special thanks to Mary Utuk (Creative Lead at Ivydale Primary School), the teachers of Reception and Year 2 classes, and the SLT at Ivydale Primary School, for supporting the Oddkins Workshop series, which has informed the scenographic methods and aesthetic language of this work.
